Dogs on Penzance Beach
Penzance Beach is not named on its own in Cornwall Council’s dogs-on-beaches list, but the list has an entry for the area next to it:
- “Wherry Town to Battery Rocks”: no dogs 10am–6pm, 1 July – 31 August (council map, PDF)
We cannot tell from the council’s list alone whether this restriction covers the part of Penzance Beach you plan to use, check the council map before you go and follow any signs on the beach. (Council page last updated 23 October 2026, checked by us on 1 November 2026.) The council says breaking a dog order can lead to a £100 fixed penalty notice (council penalties page).

Mounts Bay is on the south coast of Cornwall. There are four designated bathing waters located around the bay - Wherry Town, Penzance, Long Rock and Marazion. All the beaches are sandy resorts backed by sea defences. Penzance beach is approximately 530 metres wide.

Safety and tides
Whether a lifeguard is on duty depends on the beach and the date. Cornwall Council says the RNLI’s main lifeguard season runs from May to September and varies from beach to beach, so check the RNLI’s lifeguarded beach finder before you go. We do not list lifeguard dates until we can check them.
The council points visitors to BBC tide tables for tide times. In an emergency at the coast, call 999 and ask for the Coastguard (HM Coastguard). More in our beach safety guide.
